Putting Patient Safety First

News and Events

The central goal of hospitals and healthcare organizations is, by nature, to improve patient safety - and Forward Advantage has devoted its business to technology solutions that help customers reach that goal. Healthcare IT contributes a wide range of benefits, such as: enhanced security, greater efficiency, improved accuracy, and financial savings. However, it should also benefit everyone’s #1 customer: the patient.

Despite the great strides that have been made with healthcare IT, there are still some troubling statistics regarding patient safety. In fact, the World Health Organization estimates that:

• 134 million adverse events occur each year due to unsafe care in hospitals in low and middle-income countries, resulting in some 2.6 million deaths annually.

• 4 out of 10 patients are harmed in primary and ambulatory settings, and up to 80% of harm in these settings can be avoided.

Patient Safety Awareness Week

For anyone unfamiliar, this week is Patient Safety Awareness Week (March 8th-14th). This event is sponsored by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) to encourage local and global discussion and education opportunities to advance patient safety.

In recognition of this important week, this post is devoted to ways our customers can get involved. It also covers solutions from Forward Advantage’s partners that satisfy many healthcare benefits while keeping patient safety front and center.

Get Involved!

The official hashtag for Patient Safety Awareness Week is #PSAW20. We encourage you to follow it on social media platforms to see how others are getting involved. Share your opinion and ways that your organization is improving patient safety!

The times have certainly changed in healthcare. It’s now a fast-paced digital world with cloud-based applications, mobile devices, remote users, and growing rates of identity theft and data breaches.  Enhancing safety is paramount for the success of your patients and overall organization. We encourage our customers to take part in Patient Safety Awareness Week (#PSAW) using the resources outlined in this post. As always, we also encourage you to explore ways patient safety can be enhanced at your organization.
